Welcome to the British Columbia Holstein Branch

Carl Barclay, President

2023 is off to a great start with BC Holstein Branch events happening and planned to happen all over the province.

In April Holstein Canada had its AGM in Montreal, Quebec. The new CEO of Holstein Canada was introduced, Sartaj Sarkaria. Hopefully in the coming year she will have a chance to meet some of our members in BC. Comestar Lamadona Doorman EX-94-2E 22* was announced as the Cow of the Year. Special congrats go out to our own BC bred finalist WILLSWIKK DUPLEX DION EX-95-5E 3* owned by Wikkshaven Holsteins of Cobble Hill.

Congrats to the Chalack family of Wendon Holsteins on earning their 3rd Master Breeder shield!

Some upcoming plans for the rest of the year are to host the BC Holstein Branch picnic at Arendsdale Farms, hosted by the Arends family, in Abbotsford on June 29th starting at 10am! They milk 450 cows in an inside rotary parlour and recently built new facilities along with a calf barn that you will be able to walk through. There will be a bouncy castle for the kids along with games. Of course there will be food and socializing. We hope to see you there!

We are planning to host breeders cup events around the province this year. Watch for more details about these events in your club area. The plan is to have our AGM in person in late 2023 around the same time as the BC Dairy Industry Conference. We are looking at modifying the format slightly and will unveil our 2023 BC Cow of the Year at this event!

Its all about coming back together in 2023! See you all soon!
